Tests & Results

On average, please allow 7 working days for your blood test results to come back from the hospital. Urine samples, faeces and swabs will also take up to 7 working days to come back.  Please note that X-ray or scan results take much longer. If you are bringing in a specimen please make sure that it is here before 2pm.

Results can be contained by speaking to a receptionist, please ring after 11am.  Please understand that the receptionists are not able to read the results and can only tell you what the Dr has written next to the incoming report.  If your results have arrived but the GP has not had the opportunity to review the results we can arrange for someone to call you back.  We only chase results on the instruction of a clinician or when they are significantly later than expected.

If the result is complicated, or if the doctor wants to see you about the result, we will offer you an appointment. We will only give results to the person who has had the test.
