Over the Counter Medicines

Since 2018 the NHS has been asking prescribers not to issue prescriptions for medicines that are available to buy over the counter.  As an NHS general practice we must follow NHS guidance and therefore we will be removing over the counter medicines from existing prescriptions and not issuing prescriptions for acute conditions where treatment can be bought by the patient.  We appreciate this has implications for patients in what are already challenging financial times, however NHS funding is limited and we are obliged to work within cost saving guidance as part of our NHS contract.
